It might be a good idea to consult with someone who is already in the business with whom you will not be a competitor. See what is involved, the space required, the commitment for equipment, the number of members needed to break even, the resignation rate and the area from which to find replacements. My friend has a very successful fitness center and recently started another so as to protect the lower part of his market. That facility is nearly breaking even, but the property he purchased is desirable and is designated for unrestricted commercial use.

Okay I’m going to anytime fitness with my dad tomorrow but my cousin wants to go to. We could bring her as my guest but what are the age requirements to be on the equipment?
I would check with the fitness policy. And you should definitely go to see your doctor and ask him if you’re developed enough to work out actively using not only your own weight. That can be very dangerous!
Has anyone in Canada received their July issue of Fitness Magazine yet? I haven’t - and it never takes this long for my magazine subscriptions to arrive in the mail! I think the issue is possibly for July and August, but even still…it’s the middle of July already! Should I be concerned?
Give it a few days, I’d be concerned if it hasn’t arrived a week though. Do you know anyone who lives in the same area who also subscribes to the magazine? You could ask if they have received it. You could also call the magazine and ask.
Suggestions on Jobs in fitness and travel combined?
I have been a Gym instructor for 2yrs and haven’t yet been able to get a job in this country at least.
I really love to travel and would like to combine health and fitness with travel any suggestions please, 25yr and would like to train for a career before I’m 30yr.
(1) Try getting a job in Dubai.
You can easily visit now….and then look for a job whilst there.
I imagine there will be many opportunities for a good female instructor in one of the large hotels. Once you find a role…then apply for a work permit..the employer should be able to help you easily.
(2) Try to get a job on cruises ….you get to do your experienced role and travel too.
What is a good company for fitness instructor liability insurance?
I am a certified Pilates instructor, but taught only at a rec center until recently so didn’t need any insurance. I have an opportunity to teach independently in 2 weeks and need to purchase insurance quickly and cheaply, but don’t want to be scammed. Who should I use –was told it should cost me around $150? Thanks!
Contact a local independent insurance agent and have them research this for you. My experience with trying to insure anyone who coaches or trains in health and fitness tells me that the $150 would be more like a monthly rate (and that may be on the low side), if you can find someone to write it.
