how can I get help for a friend who is homeless in Berkeley Ca?
This friend is trying to recover from alcoholism and manic depression. Her family is of no further help. She called me today and I suggested that she has a lifetime membership at 24hr fitness that she can use to keep clean, and the library can get her the internet access to find a job. She should then use her first several days pay to get a dive place, then slowly pull herself up from her bootstraps. And stay away from the Alcohol!!
Tough situation but good for her for trying. It probably seems overwhelming initially to climb out of the hole.
Allow her to use your address to put on her resume, and your phone number if she needs a call back number for jobs. Offer to help her do her resume. Offer to loan her some clothes or else take her to good will and buy her a few “work”-type clothes that she’ll be able to wear.
Encourage her to attend AA meetings. They’ll also be a source of support on how to pick up the pieces of her life.
Make sure she has proper Bi-polar meds to stabilize her mood.
