Moving to Austin, TX PLEASE READ!!!?

Me and my Husband will be moving to Austin from Lubbock the first of December.

I need as much information as possible!!!
Where is the best place to live within reasonable price ($ 1-2 br. $500-750)
I am looking for an administrative assistant job (full time) and I need to know the best place to look?
I am also looking to get into some activities/groups. I dance (all types) musical, art, fitness (yoga/pilates) etc.
Where is a good place to go country dancing (I love to do lifts!)
Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Please, I’d like lots of replies!

Employment:
There are several publications use can use to look for jobs:
Austin American Statesman (daily newspaper)
Austin Chronicle (alternative press, weekly on Thursdays)
also, walk into a grocery store (HEB, Randalls, Albertsons) and usually near the exit door their are several job finder publications

and of course looking online is a great source for jobs, though the economy is really struggling right now, so be prepared for a tough road

Living:
South Austin is most eclectic and authentic
North/West Austin are suburban/family oriented
Central/Downtown/UT is full of young professionals with new condos going up all the time
East is not bad, though I would be cautious about neighborhoods east of I-35 between Cezar Chavez & the capital - just behind in development and generally the residents here have lower incomes than the city average

I would suggest using an apartment locator or real estate agent- they will know the area well and offer advice to need to make a smart choice.

The University of Texas is just north of downtown, Dell is in Round Rock (an area just north of Austin, about 25 minutes from downtown Austin) - condos are being built up all over, esp. near downtown, though are expensive (in general, the cost of living in Texas is low compared to most places).

Austin is very friendly toward the arts & outdoors, so finding a yoga studio or the like should be easy. The Austin Chronicle will offer listings for all of that kind of thing. You may also look for reviews on austin.citysearch.com

Music:
You may go country dancing at-
Midnight Rodeo (south Austin, basically Ben White & Parker Lane) or Graham Central Station (north, in Pflugerville, I-35 & Grand Avenue Parkway).

Other in music, Austin is a town for local talent- some of my favs…Vallejo, Abra Moore and Tungsten Coil, whom I work with (www.tungstencoil.com)

I would say stop at Antones (5th & Lavaca) and Continental Club (South Congress) or walking through the wareouse district (4th & Colorado-ish) go by Cedar Street Courtyard, an open air plaza-like space with a big stage (often Latin dance or an 80s cover band)

Other to do/see-
Barton Springs (in Zilker Park, $3 swimming and they also offer canoe rentals), Go to Mount Bonnell, Town Lake greenbelt

Just park on Congress just south of Riverside and start walking (from April through September), around 7ish, you can watch the bats fly out from under the Congress bridge,
You may enjoy a walk on the state capitol grounds (11th & Congress), and just walk around ut - pardon the construction

Guero’s (South Congress) is a “see and be seen” restaurant, though you will find better food at the Blue Dahlia Bistro (East 11th) and Hyde Park Grill (Duval Street)

and if you have anything “Texas Tech”, leave it behind…hook’em

fitness facts and figures

June 12th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Why is it that Monica Brant can not seem to win a figure competition?

This incredible athlete brings an amazing physique time and time again to these shows, and she’s never places below thrid place, yet she’s never one a figure contest. As a matter of fact, the last time she won a contest was at the 1998 FITNESS Olympia. I don’t know if figure judges have a grudge on her or what. I wish I knew the reason. Maybe someone out there in the Internet universe knows the reason. If so, I would like to hear it, as well as all her fans. Thanks so much!

All I can say is, bodybuilding, fitness, and figure is completely subjective. As a fan of the sport, I would say that she is not the ‘in’ person currently. This year at the O, you will Amber, and Jenny at the top just like last year. It is the same with the men. You will see Jay and Ronnie at the top with Vitor third….even if he might be better than both. Once you remove the subjectivity, all you are lft with is the bias.
