Mountain climbing fitness?

I want to start mountain climbing and so I’m starting with the three peak challenge in the UK. What kind of exercises are the best to get in shape for mountain climbing? I know that climbing mountains will help me get in shape… but I have none close to me whatsoever. I’m assuming I’ll need some strong leg muscles?
Thank you so much! That is everything I need! I go to the gym 5 days a week anyway but only really do cardio and maybe about 20 minutes daily of weights on my legs - but didn’t really know what was best, so thank you very much - its been a great help!

I do mountaineering regularly, so I hit the gym 4 or 5 days a week and hike on the weekends.

You will need to do both strength training and cardio training.

I lift weights 4 days a week, alternating between upper and lower body. I do concentrate on my legs, back, and shoulders since these do the majority of the work when climbing.

I also do cardio 5 days a week - 30 to 60 minutes. I do a cycling class 3 days a week, hit the stair climber for 40 minutes one day, and do sprints on the treadmill for 30 minutes (2 minutes of sprinting, 3 of walking, alternating).

I usually do a high altitude hike on the weekends too, but you could probably just do a long, fast walk.

An EXCELLENT book on this subject is Training for Peak Performance by Clyde Soles (Mountaineer Books).

I am for it because in today’s day and age, obesity between children has risen and it doesn’t hurt for a child to take a fitness test. They do have the energy for it!

Neither, None, or both?

I noticed the following question in a health and fitness quiz:
Which best describes your exercise program?
a) both weight training and aerobic exercise
b) either weight training or aerobic exercise
c) none
I think the 3rd option should have been “c) neither”, and “none” seems wrong to me. What do you think?

I see where you’re coming from and why you prefer “neither.” But I think they didn’t use “neither” because it is singular, and a & b contain two items so cannot be referred to as singular. I think c should have been “no exercise.”

I was thinking..
Dance to your fave CD for 20min
Walk the Dog
DO 20 jump/jack and then redo them 10 times trying to beat the previous times record.

I am applying for a Grant for my school and My grant Idea is F5 week “The Winds of Healthy Change”
I am challenging the student body to eat better and exercise to just GET MOVING. My school has 36% obese kids, 12% MORBIDLY obese kids, 18% at risk and only 34% Healthy kids!!!! How scarry is that! We are just a everyday run of the mill ELEMENTARY School. I am so SO worried about my students health. I would appreciate any GOOD IDEAS to help make this FUN and EXCITING for them to do!!

we have a field day this is a whole week dedicated to fitness. I need ideas for them to do at home. I am having them log the minutes on a sheet and parents sign off on it.

we used to have Field Day. there would be several activities planned. each group would have a certain amount of time to do the activity before they went on to the next. you could have jump ropes, relay races, long jump, whatever you want. throw a frisbee through a hula hoop. who can hula hoop the longest? the team or class with the most points wins a party or gets to watch a movie. kids all over are getting fatter because they sit inside playing video games or watching tv instead of going out and playing. good luck!

Can you pass PE if you don’t do good on the fitness test?

I have an A- in Gym, and A+’s in all my other classes. Reason for the A- is lack of extra credit options. Anyways, the fitness test is coming pretty soon. I should be able to pass the mile run, the sit-up test, and the sit and reach ones, but I know I’m going to fail the push up test and probably the shuttle run test. This is my first year in public school, so it’s my first time doing push ups etc. How much of your grade is the fitness test? I mean, if some kid had an A and failed all the tests, what would his grade be, and would he have to repeat PE? What if he just fails some and barely passes the others? Thanks, and sorry for the long question.

Truthfully, the only way to know is to ask the teacher how much each test is worth. I doubt that you will fail gym, because of the physical tests. However, you may not get an A in the class. If you fail some and barely pass some others, passing still depends on grading system for that teacher’s particular class. If it did bring your grade down that much then the system doesn’t care about the some that you actually passed. If you fail PE you would have to repeat it. Good luck on your tests! I’m sure you’ll be fine on all of them and you’ll be fine even if you fail a couple of those tests.

Wii sports fitness age joke?

So me and my friend were doing our WII sports fitness age and when she was done her age popped up as 28 and then fell off the screen and was replaced by a 39. Has this happened to anyone else? I thought it was funny but my friend thought otherwise. Is this some mean joke by nintendo?

Well it happens to people, but not because they fall off the balance people. It just does that so you feel happy first, but then you feel down, it’s not exactly mean, but it may get annoying.

what are some low organization indoor fitness games?

I have got an assignment in gym that we have to create a indoor fitness game for which the instructions are clear and which reuires less equipments and low organization. It must have some fitness in it. there must be some fitness for each team member. Every bdy should do something. Please think of some interesting games. Think for the equipments available in a gym class.

I don’t know, maybe something like Simon Says would be good.
