What do you think of my England World Cup squad based on current form and fitness?

KEEPERS: James, Robinson, Foster.
DEFENDERS: Terry, Ferdinand, Cole, Johnson, Lescott, Bridge, Woodgate, Warnock.
MIDFIELDERS: Lampard, Gerrard, Barry, Lennon, Beckham, Wright-Phillips, Walcott, Milner.
STRIKERS: Rooney, Defoe, Crouch, Agbonlahor.

Who would you change?

I would leave out Robinson and replace with Green.
Woodgate won’t be fit enough, right back cover is missing.
I would look at Keiran Gibbs to replace Wayne Bridge.
I would choose 1 of SWP or Aaron Lennon.
Must include Joe Cole.
There needs to be more power in the forwards, I prefer Carlton Cole but Heskey will do, Gabby A will crowd the space of Joe Cole and Rooney.
I would also look at pairings i.e. A.Cole to J. Cole, G. Johnson to S. Gerrard, Ferdinand to Barry, Terry to Lampard etc.
My team would be ;

Keepers: Green, James, Foster

Defenders: Johnson, Ferdinand, Terry, A Cole, Warnock, Upson, Lescott, Gibbs.

Midfielders: Barry (Holding) Carrick (Holding)
Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney (Hole), J Cole, Milner, Beckham, Lennon.

Strikers:C Cole, Defoe, Crouch.

The subs would be impact players with specialisms, Beckham’s accuracy, Lennon’s jinking, Milner’s engine, Crouch’s heading (best used with Beckham on the pitch).
Consider holding back one of the key players in case of injury.

Fitness tips for beginners?

What tips would you give someone who’s just starting to work out again?

Start slowly. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you can start at the advanced level because you will get burnt out and are more likely to stop the program altogether. Don’t be afraid to push yourself after sticking with a program for a while. In order to achieve greater results, the body needs to be challenged… but not injured. Google the “Couch to 5K” plan if you are into outdoor stuff like walking and jogging. It’s a great program. I also used the FIRM workout series. They have different levels for different people… you use weights and cardio and you get incredible results. 60lbs in 8 months and have maintained it for over a year. Good luck.

How much do they get paid at crunch fitness in Chicago?

I am about to apply at Crunch Fitness for a front desk position. Does anybody know how much they make an hour?

I’m going to have to estimate about $10/hr. If you’re lucky maybe a few bucks more.

Are there any good group fitness activities?

I have been involved in fitness for the last 4 years. Recently I find that my gym program has gotten pretty stale and I’m looking to liven it up a bit. I’m looking for a group fitness activity that will improve my cardiovascular conditioning, help me trim fat and teach me self defense, without the formality of karate or judo (where you have to have a uniform and all that)…something fun…any ideas out there?

I don’t know the area you live,
but I go to my local “Family Y”.
The have an excellent group fitness that centers
on the cardiovascular conditioning. And, the huge
plus, very inexpensive compared to other clubs.
They do not do karate or judo there and they will
work you hard and monitor you carefully.
I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Running fitness - detrimental on roads?

I recently saw this on a forum.
‘Running on roads can be very detrimental to your joints and future health. Surgeons are currently seeing a rise in the amount of knee and hip operations they are doing on young and healthy individuals who exercise/run regularly…’
The way this continued suggested that all road running was bad. I protested in a sentence or two and got this back:
‘This page: http://answers.google.com/answers/thread… talks about running on different surfaces, it has links to other journals, articles and advice from experts. If you read down far enough it goes in enough detail to state that you are 50% more likely to injure yourself when running if you run on a hard surface (ie; concrete, tarmac and other road surfaces). It also goes on to say that running on a softer surface may help prevent/reduce the symptoms of illiotibial band’ - I don’t know very much about this. Is this right?

I ran cross country competitively for 6 years and when ever possible my coach said not to run on the pavement. It makes a huge difference. The pounding on the joints can’t be that good for you! I would agree with the study. Run on dirt! Dirt trails are more fun anyways.

Gym basic fitness plan?

Hi I’ve just joined fitness first in Birmingham
I’m 5.11 out of shape and was looking for a beginners fit programme for all round fit
ideally a web link because I’ve been searching google for hours and can’t find nothing

Check out the Men’s Health website…. They have all sorts of workout plans. Some you can print out for free and others you can download to an IPod or IPhone.

I’d specifically start looking at their “Belly Off” plans. Basic workouts and nutritional ideas to help build a foundation of fitness.

Here’s a link to the home page….

Hope that helps. Be well.
