For those of us who have MC?
What role do you think religion plays in healing from a miscarriage?
I mc in Feb of this year and feel emotionally healed - I accept the biology of it that some babies just do not develop properly and I am now one of the statistics about first pregnancy loss.
My sister mc in June 2005 and still asks what she did for her god (or God) to take away her baby - she searches her childhood memories to figure out where/when/why she displeased him so much that he would want to cause her such pain. She is Christian/Nondenominational and I am Atheist. (she has 3 kids)
I tend to think that I have healed better than her because I know I did everything I could (nutrition, vitamins, fitness, etc) and I trust my current pregnancy will continue along just fine. I feel she has healed much more slowly because she thinks she was punished for some unknown wrong to her deity.
I am just curious about opinions on this - no judgments please, just your feelings about god/God, loss and healing
I think it all depends on the person. My best friend is very religious and almost 20 years ago she miscarried her first pregnancy. Although it’s something that she feels she’ll never completely get over she was able to move past it. Luckily for her she was young and was able to have another child a couple of years later.
Your sister is trying to find a reason for the miscarriage and the reality is…there might not be one. I don’t think that God did anything to her….but that’s my personal opinion. The God I believe in doesn’t do those kinds of things.
