If your budget limits you to amatures, then the beach is an obvious choice. You can see, for yourself, it the person has the fitness qualities you seek.

Don’t show up like a geek with a camera looking for cheap thrills. Come across like a pro. Have equipment ready to go. Put a stack of business cards in your camera bag had DO NOT forget to have plenty of release forms for them to sign.

If you don’t HAVE a professional looking camera bag and equipment, business cards and release forms, then you have no business asking strangers to sit for a “fitness shoot.”

If you ARE ready, be prepared for turndowns, laughs in your face and suspicious looks. Don’t hound anyone who says “no,” and don’t get caught sneaking a few snaps of someone if they already say “no.”

I have done this, with some moderate success. It takes practice to do this with amatures, and don’t forget. The difference between an amature model and a pro, is that a pro KNOWS how to sit for best results. The pro does her job and the photog coaches and coaxes for that “outstanding” shot. With a professional model, AND a professional photographer, a good ratio of “outstanding” shots may be one out of twenty. With an amature, you will be lucky to capture one image out of a hundred worthy of publication. And even that one may not get picked by an editor.
