i’m interested in working as firefighter? tips help im college student lost in life?

last 2 yrs of my life ive been lost and kind of a mess.

im a psych major at northeastern university. ive been dropping classes for last two yrs and just not focused because i had no idea what i want to do. i came up with the hopes of becoming EMT, then doing some work with that and trying to apprentice at fire department in boston.

im a smart guy got 1250 on SAT (not great but gives u idea of some aptitude) im a fitness nut i do triathlons and on my univ judo team. anyways thats what ive been doing instead of school for last 2 yrs.

what does it take (upstairs and literally) to become a firefighter. if i eventually want to go into psychology after doing fire department for less then 10 yrs is that practical.???????????/

sorry this is so long you guys i just came up with this (fits my lifestyle) and its new in my mind i want to see some otherperspectives???

thank you sooo much in advance

-Justin

Hey Justin,
You are starting early with a goal which is good. Look on the Boston FD website.
http://www.cityofboston.gov/fire/hiring.asp
They will be testing soon. This page also has a list of requirements. Start the process now. Often guys will spend years testing before getting hired. The testing process is long and very competitive. Don’t just test for BFD, look into all the smaller cities surrounding Boston. Where else would you like to live? Test there too. The more you test and don’t get hired, you will be learning the process and becoming a better candidate.
If you’ve ever thought about the military you would have extra points on your firefighter test with an honorable discharge

As for a “normal” lifestyle trying to do psychology and firefighting: Think of the time requirement to do your psychology work, you would have to arrange that work around your ff schedule and I imagine psychology work could be quite time consuming. Can you think how your family would suffer while you were gone overnight on your ff shifts and off to psychology work all the other weekdays. And don’t forget, to be your best at either/both jobs you will need to keep up in your training and studies that happen outside of work. That would leave little time for your social/artistic/personal side — which is essential and beneficial for your firefighting job anyway.

What is the best video game exercise/fitness program?

Need to exercise, thought if there is a good video game that would get “fat butt” off the couch that would help! What can you recommend?

No video games by themselves that I’m aware of. DDR and WII boxing will get your heart rate up some. Not enough to get you in any kind of shape, but its better than the couch I suppose.

That said, when forced indoors by weather, I’ll play NCAA football for a couple hours while riding my bike trainer……

How far should an adult of average fitness and size be able to hit a baseball?

We were at the local ball field trying to play home run derby and no of us could get the ball over the 300 foot fence. Do we suck or does it take someone special to hit a ball that far? We all played baseball in high school so we aren’t total scrubs, but I was surprised that we couldn’t hit it out of this little park..

How often does the adult of average fitness and size in question swing the bat? Practice and technique have as much to do with going yard as being in shape. You can’t really say that a person in Size and Shape X should hit it this far, Size and Shape Y this far, and so on.

What is the measurement of a bender ball?

I don’t want to actually BUY the bender ball because it takes way too long for shipping. I just want some sort of fitness ball the same size. But it doesn’t give the size in inches.
I’ve heard grapefruit and soccer ball. ???

Go here: Says 7 inches, and it’s written by Leslee Bender herself :-) :

Other balls (normally 9-inches) are available for way cheaper; but no video…Then again, there’s tons of websites which can show u the excercises, and it’s not Rocket Science! I wouldn’t order the Bender; INFAMOUS for Order issues (including a friend of mine).

fitness levels for the army
how can i get my fitness level up and weight down enough to join the australian army?

I want to enlist in the army, but my fitness level is not as good as it could be and i really need to get it down.. im trying everything i know… but nothing.. i have 6 months to lose 10kg.. and be able to pass the fitness test! please help

Like most people said, start a fitness program. Your best bet is to RUN!! That burns the most calories. Also, though not mentioned, don’t diet like crazy. Eat normal, moderate, healthy food. You should know by now what that is, but don’t starve yourself. Switch your routines so that you’re not always doing the same exercises. For example, one week you run, the next you rollerblade, the next you’re bikeriding. What about hiking? Swimming? These are all aerobic activities and several of which are likely to be fun as well as helpful. Good luck!

I have an idea for a fitness video game aimed toward kids?

I have this idea for a fitness video game that kids would love…lets face it our youth is growing up fat…we need things to keep them active…they look for there game consoles for boredom releif the game i want to invent will allow them to play an awesome game and be active! But how do I get it out there..who do I go to with my idea?

I’m sorry I can’t help you with who you can pitch to, but I see your point. Kids and even a lot of men today are totally into viedo games. If you can find a way to incorporate exercise into their gaming I say go for it. I’m thinking it might be something similar to DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). That’s a pretty active game. My bro has one. The only problem is he lives in an upstairs apt and the grouch people downstairs say it makes to much noise when he plays it. It’d also be nice if it was made for more than one gaming system so that kids of all income levels have a chance to enjoy it.
