Moving to Austin, TX PLEASE READ!!!?

Me and my Husband will be moving to Austin from Lubbock the first of December.

I need as much information as possible!!!
Where is the best place to live within reasonable price ($ 1-2 br. $500-750)
I am looking for an administrative assistant job (full time) and I need to know the best place to look?
I am also looking to get into some activities/groups. I dance (all types) musical, art, fitness (yoga/pilates) etc.
Where is a good place to go country dancing (I love to do lifts!)
Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Please, I’d like lots of replies!

Employment:
There are several publications use can use to look for jobs:
Austin American Statesman (daily newspaper)
Austin Chronicle (alternative press, weekly on Thursdays)
also, walk into a grocery store (HEB, Randalls, Albertsons) and usually near the exit door their are several job finder publications

and of course looking online is a great source for jobs, though the economy is really struggling right now, so be prepared for a tough road

Living:
South Austin is most eclectic and authentic
North/West Austin are suburban/family oriented
Central/Downtown/UT is full of young professionals with new condos going up all the time
East is not bad, though I would be cautious about neighborhoods east of I-35 between Cezar Chavez & the capital - just behind in development and generally the residents here have lower incomes than the city average

I would suggest using an apartment locator or real estate agent- they will know the area well and offer advice to need to make a smart choice.

The University of Texas is just north of downtown, Dell is in Round Rock (an area just north of Austin, about 25 minutes from downtown Austin) - condos are being built up all over, esp. near downtown, though are expensive (in general, the cost of living in Texas is low compared to most places).

Austin is very friendly toward the arts & outdoors, so finding a yoga studio or the like should be easy. The Austin Chronicle will offer listings for all of that kind of thing. You may also look for reviews on austin.citysearch.com

Music:
You may go country dancing at-
Midnight Rodeo (south Austin, basically Ben White & Parker Lane) or Graham Central Station (north, in Pflugerville, I-35 & Grand Avenue Parkway).

Other in music, Austin is a town for local talent- some of my favs…Vallejo, Abra Moore and Tungsten Coil, whom I work with (www.tungstencoil.com)

I would say stop at Antones (5th & Lavaca) and Continental Club (South Congress) or walking through the wareouse district (4th & Colorado-ish) go by Cedar Street Courtyard, an open air plaza-like space with a big stage (often Latin dance or an 80s cover band)

Other to do/see-
Barton Springs (in Zilker Park, $3 swimming and they also offer canoe rentals), Go to Mount Bonnell, Town Lake greenbelt

Just park on Congress just south of Riverside and start walking (from April through September), around 7ish, you can watch the bats fly out from under the Congress bridge,
You may enjoy a walk on the state capitol grounds (11th & Congress), and just walk around ut - pardon the construction

Guero’s (South Congress) is a “see and be seen” restaurant, though you will find better food at the Blue Dahlia Bistro (East 11th) and Hyde Park Grill (Duval Street)

and if you have anything “Texas Tech”, leave it behind…hook’em

fitness level chart
Can someone tell me what fitness level I’m at? Also suggestions for loosing twenty pounds.?

I work out on the treadmill everyday for 35 minutes at the highest incline (15) and have it set at 3.5 mph, I do the rowing machine for 8 minutes, do about 10 minutes of weight work outs and then swim for 1 hour. ( deep water class for 45 minutes and then swim) I am a 47 year old female. I’m 20 pounds over weight according to the charts. Can someone give me a suggestion to loose weight?

don’t know your fitness level (sounds really good) but i can help with the weight loss.try to eat 5 SMALL meals a day keep it high in protine and low in fat. carbs are okay but always in moderation. whole grain breads are best. cut out the junk food
fish is good, like salmon and tuna for meals, also chicken, non breaded . have a fruit or vegitable, vegies are best (less sugar) with each meal and half a liter of water and mabey a small glass of juice. 2-3 eggs for breakfast make it an omlet with chease and stuff or what ever way you like your eggs. be creative with your meals. eat right but enjoy it or it will fail because you will wan’t to quit. no more condements except for small ammounts of mayo for tuna or chicken salad. if you wish to eat them thats ok they will slow you down if you eat them but it won’t stop your progress . mix up the recipies have fun with your food. stop eating sweets for good don’t eat after 8:00 (optional, it really does help). drink lots of water 2-3 liters a day no sodas or sugary drinks and back off the caffine. its tough for 3 or 4 days then it gets starts to get easier. on work outs don’t use machine weights you’ll only hurt your self in the long run. you won’t workout your stabelizer mucles and those mucles are key. keep the weight heavy and reps low 2 sets of 5 reps max. any more icreases injury risk. this won’t get you huge like arnold i promise. it will tone the mucle you have by making it denser. more muscle burns more calories and thats what we want. don’t get discouraged it takes time to get going but then moves fast the pounds will start rolling off soon. but rember thoes charts are only guidelines talk to a doctor to find out where you should really be health wise.
